Minoan civilization

A Bronze Age Aegean Civilization that flourished in Crete. It is divided into three periods. The early Minoan period (c.3000-2200 B.C.) saw the rise of the culture from a neolithic state, with the tentative use of bronze and the appearance of hieroglyphic writing. The Middle Minoan period (c.2200-1500 B.C.) was the high point: the great palaces appeared at Knossos and Phaestus, culture thrived, and linear writing was used. The Late Minoan period (c.1500-1000 B.C.) faded out in poverty, and the cultural center passed to the Greek mainland.
